Abstract Moments

We were on our second hour at the car dealership when boredom quickly took over. I had gotten pretty deep into my copy of Slaughterhouse Five… and had enjoyed my share of free coffee, when I decided to grab my camera to see what I could find. It wasn’t long before the heat had me return and melt into a chair adjacent to the door. It was then that I realized the shot that I was looking for was right in front of me. The reflections and flecks of light coming off the Mini Countryman gave me a shot of inspiration. Light, shadows, and a sense of abstract weirdness. helped me get over my boredom and into a creative mindspace.

A Bad Day Gone Good

Getting my wife out of bed and out the door early on a Saturday was worth all the sausage in Baconvile. A good start before realizing my balance and coordination was shit. with the only options of stay home and call it a day and get going and see what’s happens. Naturally, I chose the latter. After a short drive to Catonsville Maryland’s Atwater’s for a hearty breakfast. We filled our day with hitting up all the worthy bakery’s and a favorite record store. Though my balance seemed lackluster most of the day. It didn’t keep me down. The picture below was taken while returning to our car in Catonsville. The highly reflective mirrors and what looked like burnt edges caught the attention of both me and my wife.It made for a cool shot.

On our trip back home from Lancaster and pretty deep into Maryland. We came across a school bus company that had to be checked out. As I reveled in what had to be a million school buses. Shooting images of the yellow buses snuggled tightly together so tightly. A Marine drill sargeant would be proud. I enjoyed the moment while waiting for a squad car to arrive to check my credentials. While my time there seemed like a matter of seconds. It was the perfect opportuniy to catch the last hints of daylight while getting creative. Luckily, there was no intereferance from the po-po and we were able to drive off into the sunset without as much as a peering eye.

Working from home is one way of closing yourself off from social interaction. Enduring a dark, rainy day ensures I won’t be going very far. However, today’s combination of both did little to extinguish my desire to attempt anything remotely creative. Thankfully, the rain left its impression on our living space. As drops of rain collected on our windows and doors. Enough to make for a pretty cool idea. In working on using light, shadow, and other aspects to achieve my future goals of using natural light to create mood in my portraits. I find that experimenting with various elements will benefit me in the end.

No matter where I go, or what I do. I see just about everything as a picture opportunity. Whether I have my camera with me by my side or my phone in my back pocket. Every time is picture time. Like a true superhero. My strength is my weakness. So, as we sat at the counter waiting for our breakfast, I became drawn to the drinking glasses in front of me and how they warped the scene just outside the diners window, with the coasters in focus while the the rest of what you’re seeing was somewhat warped. I felt I had something worth capturing. The results seemed worth sharing.

Looking Back into the Future of the Blog

Earlier this morning, I took some time to revisit some prior posts on the blog. Initially, I wanted to check to see if anything needed editing or, if thoroughly embarrassing or inappropriate, deleted. As I quickly found myself going back to my years as a Jersey City resident, I was happy to see that the overall tone of my posts was overwhelmingly positive. Getting to see my life, travels, and experiences documented through words and images reinforced my belief that starting this blog more than ten years ago served as much more than an opportunity to share m passion for photography.

Blogging allowed me to communicate my thoughts while sharing my work. Perhaps the most unexpected gain has been finding consistency, and being able to backtrack and see my progress has been rewarding, though there’s always plenty of room for improvement and growth. I feel that it’s more than worth the effort and time. I created and built this blog on my love of photography, art, and life itself. I’ve learned a lot more than I’ve taught, and I hope to continue to learn more about myself and life before sharing my ups, downs, and experiences with the people who dare to read and follow. Here’s to the future, present, and even the past.
