Nice Tits.

After a weekend of bar crawling and an incredible concert I woke rather late Sunday morning. Poured my coffee and grabbed my gear to head out for a late, late breakfast. Still weary eyed and a little hung over I fumbled for the keys. When I turned to head down the stairs I got an eyeful. I have to say this was just the thing I needed to wake me from my haze. The buildings been pretty quiet since former floor mates  Paul and Dawn moved to the big city. It’s good to see my recent neighbors also have a sense of humor.

A Visit from Stuyvesant.

Last night I had the guys from Stuyvesant over for some Band shots. Brian told me they wanted an “Unforgiving Look” while Ralph pointed to Television’s “Marquee Moon” album. I personally looked for inspiration from some of my favorite SST and Dischord Records. In less than an hour we knocked out what they were looking for. I offered them more time and ideas but they were very happy with what they got and were gone before knew I it.  Brian, Ralph, Sean and Pete were very easy going and fun to work with.

Picture of the Day.

Todays image came at the very end of my last shoot. Roksolana came to the shoot wearing a pair of Doc Marten boots. As a teenager I owned a pair of ox blood Docs that I cherished. They really stood out from the standard blacks everyone wore. Towards the very end I had her put them on with her dress. As she began to lace them up I stopped her. “Leave them just as they are. They look great.” I’ll be posting more later of her and my other shoots. For now “Rox in Docs.”

Extras from my Shoot with Tara.

Once we were done with getting the head shots she needed.      Tara asked me if I could take a few of her in her leather jacket. I could immediately tell that the clothes she had brought fro the shots didn’t fit her or her personality. Once the jacket went on the real Tara came out. It was a pleasure to see. Such an amazing personality and fun person to work with. We were literally rolling on the floor with laughter.

Don’t let Evan Dando near your Bandwith.

This morning while checking my email I noticed there was one from Ben Deily of Varisty Drag (also known for being co-founder and at one time shared vocal duties in the Lemonheads.). I got to see the band and meet Ben and his wife Lisa. After the show we talked and doing an interview in the near future for Unite came up. He told me he’d be sending me some of the bands albums when they got home. A few days later I emailed him to say hello and remind him to send said package. Good thing becuase he forgot. A week passed but nothing. So I sent a second reminder. What followed was one of the best and funniest reasons it had gone unsent. “Me getting laid out with the flu for 3 days (I’m just back at work for the first time all week this AM)…the last of which coincided with a visit from Evan Dando, which took up all my limited remaining bandwidth…  :-D”  All I can say in response is “Damn you Evan Dando.” Here are some pictures from their set at Maxwells. Thanks to Ben and Lisa. They were incredibly nice. It was a pleasure to meat them both.

WTF

As of late I’ve gotten pretty lazy when it comes to bringing my camera along with me when I go out. I’ve been doing my share of portraiture and music photography but when it comes to just random daily stuff…. I have to admit. I’ve been slipping. However last week I took my first trip to Brooklyn in weeks and decided to bring the old Canon with me. I need to get back into the habit. Even if I have to force myself in the beginning. Because on the days I leave it at home I tend to come across a lot of WTF scenerios and moments. Here was a good example. Okay, it’s one of the ugliest dogs you’re ever going to come across but why in the hell did she have this medium sized canine in a shoulder bag?

Congradulations Denise

Today Kayuri and I drove over to Little Ferry New Jersey to watch our friend Denise Keegan marry one Tom Frawley. I met Denise aka Spunky Denisha years ago while we were both displaying our photography at the Monroe Center for the Arts. Through the years she’s become a good friend and has helped me along the way as both as a test model and a photoshop wizard. A gifted photographer in her own right Denise has earned her Geek Badge collecting shot glasses and anything related to Kermit the Frog. I  wanted to take a moment to congradulate her on her special day and show my appreciation for allowing me to be a part of it. Here’s to a long, happy and fun union. Love, James

Couch trip

Few things bring us as much comfort as that old familiar couch. Back in my Hell’s Kitchen days I had this old green couch that was so long, two people could sleep on it comfortably without even being in the same area code as one another. These days I’ve got a nice brown micro suede couch that, though not as long, is quite comfortable and inviting. From time to time when I have a client over I break from the set and backgrounds and head for the couch. Most people take to it like they are in their own homes while others approach it rather gingerly. Perhaps thinking “What does he have in mind?” The results when lit just right are magic. I hereby dedicate this post to “The Couch”.

Barbie revisited.

So what ever happened to Barbie? The work hard but play harder role model for little girls everywhere. The woman who launched a million Paris Hiltons and Linsey Lohans. The girl who spent years trying to convince herself and the world that her boyfriend Ken was not the poster boy for the “Don’t ask, Don’t tell” generation. Years of part timing on the runway and bouncing from job to job did not fulfill her dreams of one day becoming anatomically correct. Oh and we can forget the all night binges at the Play House in Malibu. Or the numerous times she crashed the sports car after a night of cocaine and meth binges. Some people just don’t learn. While others were sobering up and moving on to new and better lives. Barbie was still being spoiled with shopping sprees for new clothes, jewelry and accessories by little girls around the world. It was too much too soon for Barbie. For her life was a never ending party. She didn’t foresee that there wasn’t much of future in plastics and her years of retirement would be spent naked in a crowded Salvation Army bin with He-Man (Also gay) or even worse, a Staten Island land fill. I decided to tak a before and after look at Barbie and maybe give a Lindsy and Paris a look at what their future holds. Hope you enjoy.
